Our secrets to better skin
Achieve healthy, radiant skin with balanced hormones, clean skincare, nourishing foods, and self-love.
Our secrets to better skin
Your skin is quite literally reflecting what is happening inside of the body. And no one knows this better than both of us (Yasmin & Kaya, co-founders of Beeya). We’ve been through our set of skin woes and are still currently dealing with some.
There’s no doubt that balanced hormones and a healthy diet play an essential role in healthy skin. Just google things like acne and diet and you’ll see hundreds of studies pop up, linking dairy, inflammatory oils, and sugar to problematic skin. On the flip side, research proves that antioxidants and quality fats support an outward glow.
So while we’re still learning, here are some practices that have helped us over the years.
- Cut out inflammatory oils. Check out last week’s newsletter for more on this, but foods filled with refined vegetable oils like soybean oil, canola oil, and corn oil drive inflammation, fueling the fire that is acne and other skin conditions.
- Embrace healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, and nuts and seeds. Beeya seeds have helped both of us when it comes to preventing hormonal acne.
- Your skincare matters. Our skin is our largest organ, so what we put on it gets absorbed into our bloodstream, creating hormonal havoc. Luckily, there are brands that are safe and effective.
- Don’t pick your skin and don’t obsess. Easier said than done, but trust us, you’re beautiful. You deserve more than staring in the mirror for hours on end.
- Cultivate self love. An Ayurvedic practitioner once told us that your skin is a reflection of how you feel about yourself. Is it time to work on self compassion and your relationship with yourself? This was eye opening for us.
- Ditch what aggravates you. Sometimes it’s dairy. For Yasmin, seeds are great, but nuts break her out. For Kaya, excess sugar and starch seems to be the problem. A food journal can be helpful here.
- Prioritize joy. Those who focus on their happiness, glow the most!
